First Round of the Welsh F3F Winter league is OFF

Hi All

sorry for the late post but I have just got in from work. I have to be honest it doesn't look good for Sunday. For the last couple of days rain was the main concern but this now has past. The real problem now is no wind as there appears to be a big high pressure sat on top of us.

Of the five weather sites  I have looked at only one is giving us flyable conditions which is the Met office mountain forecast on the Wrecker, true this is one of the most reliable.  Every other site is give between 2 to 5 mph with variable directions with everything from the Crest to the VR slope s we could end up chasing the wind all day.

As always with the Bwlch you could go up Sunday and it could be great but I have to make a call now as I am working tomorrow and I am afraid that with the way things are looking at the moment I think the best thing is to call it off.

All the best

First Round SWSA F3F Winter League

Sunday is the first round of the SWSA F3F winter league. I will make a call Friday if the competition is on and if so mare details of meeting times.

If I can have entries by Saturday I would be grateful as it helps with organising the flying order and get things running on the day. However, if you wake up Sunday morning and decide at the last minute you want to fly you will more than welcome, but you might find yourself early in the flying order!

If you are thinking about having a go in F3F the winter league is a great place to start, it's all pretty informal and don't worry if you haven't got the latest state of the art carbon fibre dream machine to have a go.  Sure it nice to have but it is more important that you have a go at standing in the center of a course and trying to fly a kilometer as fast as you can with what ever plane you have got.  Better to find out flying a foamie that F3F is for you than spending thousands only to find out you have made an expensive mistake!

Looking forward to seeing you all Sunday

Welsh Open Practice update

Hi All

For those of you lucky enough to be at the Bwlch today you should be enjoying some sunshine. The forecast has changes a little and is indicating that there is now more west in the wind direction. If you are finding the air a bit bumpy on the Ice Cream Slope it might be worth having a look at the Westerly slope on Mickey’s.

The good news is that Thursday was looking like a washout but it now looks like the rain could well clear by mid afternoon (16:00 onward) so if you are travelling down there could be a good chance of getting a couple of hours flying in. Again there could be a bit more west in the wind than previously forecast so you may need to go over to the westerly slope on Mickey's for the best conditions.

Enjoy and all the best

Welsh Open Practice

Hi All

For those of you coming down early for a practice for the Welsh Open I will ask the Farmer to open the gate to Mickey’s from Wednesday onwards.

Current forecast are suggesting Ice Cream Slope Wednesday, on Thursday Mickey’s during the day (with some precipitation) swinging back to The Ice Cream slope in the evening. However, as we all know 24 hours is along time in for a weather forecast on the Bwlch and it could all change by this time tomorrow!

If it is your first time to the Bwlch, best bet is always go to the landing area for the Wrecker to judge wind direction (see Kev’s old web site http://www.knewt.com/bwlch/thebwlch.htm ) before making a decision where to fly.

Any questions contact Kev or myself and I am looking forward to seeing you all on the weekend.

All the best
