Willow Champion of Champions

Hi All
Just a quick note to say thank you to Ian and Tony for sponsoring a Great Event over the weekend.

Nail biting down to the end with Simon seeing his lead built up on the first day being whittled away by Paul and Martin. Especial by Martin who was on a charge all day Sunday and two more round could have see a different result.
And of course the highlight of the whole event and the only reason we were all there, the Raffle. After fly like a complete pratt for two days yours truly came away with a smile like the Cheshire Cat and is now the proud owner of wonderful Willow.

So an extra special thank you to Ian and Tony for putting this super prise up.
When I get a few minutes I will put some photos up on the Blog of the Willow and some from the competition over the weekend.

All the best from an over the moon

VV Model Stingers Every Where!

I haven't got my hands on my Stinger yet as it's having a little holiday in Scotland at present. But hopefully we will be welcoming her to the Tabero household this coming weekend.
The feedback from Peter and Kev are that they look and feel just fantastic with Vaclav's quality as always second to none.  I just can't wait, if I didn't have so much work on I would drive up to Scotland tomorrow and collect her! But we will just have to wait a little longer....:-(

More to come soon

A cracker on the VR slope for the final winter League

Hi All
Sorry no big write up tonight on account it's Mothers day and I needed to spend some time with my Mum after the competition today.

When I looked at condition on Friday night it was indicating that it we could have a wait for some clag to clear, initially it could be marginal wind speeds and we would probably have a few breaks for rain.

When I got the slope, late I might add due to the previous days celebrations  (Wales and Rugby to give you all a clue) which lead to a set of keys going astray, there wasn't a sign of clag and a nice northerly breeze on VR slope.

Low numbers meant we elected to fly two up otherwise there would big delays organising buzzer men and covering the centre.

The conditions for the VR slope were quite variable, which is unusual for this slope which probably would end up having a big bearing on the final league positions especially with us electing to fly two rounds at a time.

There were a few highlights. Mark Abbotts new Caldera R, in its very first round of F3F Mark flew a 38:45, no better way to christen a new plane. Apart from looking very nice it was noticeably quiet at high speed, always a good indicator of clean design and functionality.

Joel flew a new PB with a 32:90 and then crowed through and flew a 32.71, with the 32.71 not only taking the fastest time for the day but also the League.

Finally the battle royal between Simon, Martin and Joel for the fifth round was quite spectacular at times with countless sub 40s being flown.

In the end we managed to get 16 rounds in with no delays for rain or low wind speed and it proved to be an apt way to wrap up the 2011/12 SWSA F3F Winter League.

A big thanks to everyone today, especially Simon who helped in the centre and Martin and Joel for getting the course up and down.

So as for the results for the day Martin ended up coming out on top followed by Joel in second and Simon in third.

The question was had Martin done enough to overtake Simon to win the league? The answer was yes and Martin was crowned the SWSA F3F Winter League Champion for 2011/11. Simon was relegated to Second and with the discard kicking in it meant Joel came in third.

So a great finish to the league with a cracking days flying which over the last five months has seen quite a few new faces, loads of fast times and plenty of PBs, just what the SWSA F3F winter league is all about!

Thanks to everyone for supporting the events and I look forward to seeing you all soon and all the best

 Andrzej

Sunday, 19 February 2012

When I left home this morning there were a few high clouds in sky  and it looked like we were going to be on for a good day. The forecast has given excellent visibility with wind 20 to 25 mph. The only question was would it be the Ice Cream slope or the VR98? I was quietly hoping for there would be enough north in the wind for the VR.

As I drove up the valleys things were still looking good until I got to Porth, and as I came around the corner the area that would be the back of the Ice Cream slope and Mickey's was shrouded in low cloud  and it even looked like it was snowing.  My worst fears were confirmed as I started up the last stretch of road as the was a white coating all over the mountain. As I went up to the Wrecker to check wind direction it was clear I wasn't the only one caught out, as the back end of my car was going all over the place and clearly the road hadn't been gritted.

Now at the Wrecker car park I was greeted with the next problem  there was no wind to fix a direction on.  As the next fall of snow was approaching I decided to get back into the car and head back to the T junction where everyone else was huddling in cars.
Simon was being very optimistic and after consulting the trusty "Pad of i" said it would soon pass and the wind would picked  up.

At this point Joel turned up with Stefan, the reason they had been late was he had been out witted by a Pheasant  which resulted in him smashing one of his drive lights on his car. By now the skies were clearing and the wind was starting to pick up as predicted by the Pad of i, putting us on the Ice Cream Slope, so of we trekked.

By 11 o'clock we had the course up and I started proceeding, see as I had sat out of the last completion with a bad back. Martin Newnham took the first round with a 46:07 followed by Simon Thornton with a 48:20 just beating Dave Rumble who clocked a 48:77.

Round 2 would See Mike Evans take the round 45:02 just pippin Martin with as 45:56 and Simon third in the round with a 47:78.
Mick Walsh travelled down from North Wales probably bring the snow with him and made the journey worthwhile  by winning the round with a 43:77. Talking of travelling second place was taken newly crowned Swiss F3F Champion Stefan Bertschi who flew a 43.99. In third place with a 45:82 was Simon.

Round 4 saw a new round winner with Joel West (probably recovering from the shock of the Pheasant incident) taking the round with 44:37. Martin was second with a 46:62 and myself taking third with a 47:49.

Round 5 saw Simon back stamping his authority on the even with a 44:03. Mick was second with a 47:52 followed by Dave with a 48:78.

Round 6 saw Ian Mason take the round with a 44:77 with Joel and myself following in his wake with a 45:53 and 46:81 respectively.

Round 7 saw Simon switch to his Fosa  and move to the front again clocking a 46:31 followed by Mike with a 47:84 and Stefan with a 48:50.

Round 8 saw condition starting to get a bit light Joel was the only one to break the 50 second barrier with a 49:83. Stefan was starting to make a late charge was second with a 53:14 and Simon was third with a 55:08.

Round  9 saw Stefan take the round with a 43:34 with Simon moving into second place with a 44:04 and Martin was third with a  45:43

Round 10 saw Simon back at the front again with a 48:98 with Dave just getting the verdict over Martin with a 50:03 to 50:33.

Round 11 had Joel pressing for victory with a 49:21 just pushing Dave into second again with a 49:32 and Martin was third with a 52:57.

Simon kept the best till last flying the Fast time of the day a 43:06 to take the 12 and final round. Leaving both Martin and Mike some way behind with a 49:07 and 50:35.

So it really was a mixed day and I have to go back quite a few competitions where we haven't broken the 40 second barrier in a winter league. That said it didn't detract from the results in what turned to be a very interesting day.

Before the results, thanks to everyone who carted the course up to the slope,  Martin and Simon for helping in the centre and Joel for help with Buzzing and Ian for being banker.

So as far as the results are concerned even though it was quite a mixed bag for everyone it wasn't such a surprise that it was Mr Consistent who took the day, Simon Thornton. Martin Newnham was runner up and it was great to see the journey man all the way from Switzerland Stefan Bertschi coming third.

So from the frustration of snow and no wind in the morning to a very enjoyable 12 round of F3F, I can't complain!

See you all in a month's time for the final round of the winter league
All the best

Andrzej
